Pronouns with Split Antecedents" [squib]. Accepted for publication

Abstract:
We suggest that the
singular
pronoun it has split
antecedents in the discourse Mary
will bake a strudel or John will buy a tiramisù. I will devour
it. Specifically, we argue that this analyis is obtained 'for
free' from the combination of (i) the mechanism that allows plurals to
have split antecedents, together with (ii) a treatment of NPs as
introducing discourse referents with maximality conditions (as is
standard in recent dynamic accounts).
